BIG was invited by Tawera Group to design up wayfinding signage and apartment numbering for Hereford Residences, which are described as “a collection of truly bespoke and timeless lifestyle opportunities”.
To present our concepts to the client we produced life-size replicas of the signs on backing boards matched to the colour of the interior walls, took them to the site and installed in position to get an authentic representation of the functionality and aesthetics. Hence the design was approved in a heartbeat!
Routered from 6mm and 10mm acrylic, the signs and lettering were custom painted in a 2-pot automotive luminous gold – produced by Car Colors – then sprayed with a matt clear coat for a beautiful finish to integrate with the residences’ elegant decor. The painting process and post-treatment were all done in BIG’s onsite spraybooth.
The apartment identifying numbers were floated off the wall by 16mm, and the directory/wayfinding signage was set onto 10mm clear acrylic with polished edges, mounted off the wall with custom painted gold sign mounts to match – no detail overlooked!
For signage installation, we made a jig to mark out the distance for the signs to be mounted from the edge of the door and down from the ceiling. Not only did this speed up the installation process, but it ensured absolute precision with consistent positioning across all 20 floors.
BIG has just started working on all of the exterior signage for the apartment block… more on this soon.
