This custom illuminated sign is a unique and highly technical build, producing a stunning effect. We were supplied with the Queens logo and built the rest of the artwork around it, for bold wayfinding.

 

The backing of the sign was router cut from 20mm Multiboard, hogged out to house LEDs, and faced with true LED acrylic. With the overall depth being merely 30mm, the LEDs were carefully positioned to ensure the illumination was evenly dispersed. To achieve the inline effect of the lettering, black vinyl was applied to the acrylic faces to block out the light.

 

We designed a custom frame to carry the lettering and engaged Terry’s Metal to fabricate it from galvanised steel. We then spent a considerable amount of time sanding the frame back to get it as smooth as possible, then painted it cream to match the building.

 

Our first hurdle was the consents required from the council and landlord, which was an eight month process.

 

The next big challenge was the work that needed to be done on the premises. We transported the finished frame from our workshop and welded it directly to the canopy. Our installer then had to touch up the welded spots – applying rust-proof, undercoat and a finish coat – all onsite.

 

The end result is a level of workmanship that our team is very proud of.
