Rosie's Red-Hot
Cantina

New Zealand Sign Display Awards 2025 – Theming – BRONZE
We produced interior graphics and illuminated signage for Rosie’s Red-Hot Cantina in the Auckland Viaduct. The branding for the California street food inspired eatery was modelled after the Wellington premises, but with its own unique murals.
Star Group supplied us with a low-resolution concept for a montage of rock concert posters. We painstakingly recreated the artwork in high resolution, designed to seamlessly extend up the stairwell walls and cover the ceilings. The mural has a raw, street-style aesthetic, resembling a venue wall built up with decades of band posters. To accompany the theme, a handful of the best posters were selected and reproduced as large tabletop graphics, digitally printed with an over-laminate.
Additional to printed and vinyl cut window lettering, and blockout graphics throughout the premises, we printed and cut lettering for the counters and applied it to the existing rough-sawn timber, which was a challenge due to the uneven surface.
We fabricated an illuminated Rosie’s lightbox to hang under the verandah and capture after-dark foot traffic. The main showpiece at the front of the eatery is a custom manufactured illuminated sign (fabricated by Rodier) with a flat face that is designed to look like 3D neon. The sign is formed in the shape of the Rosie’s logo with “neon” stars, and built with a multitude of RGB LEDs that can be programmed to display any colour. Any of the elements can be individually changed to the desired effect. It was a complex build with a stunning result. The reason for this customisability is due to the Viaduct Harbour’s preference for white illuminated signage, therefore it is capable of being changed out on a whim.
