Stretched VW Beetle Promo Vehicle

New Zealand Sign Display Awards 2025 Self Promotion – GOLD

Our pride and joy – 2VDUBS, the stretched VW Beetle – was constructed more than 30 years ago by our in-house team of fabricators. The quirky roofless, doorless vehicle was built from two Beetles, plus the doors of a third were used as panels to extend her even longer.

Over the decades, 2VDUBS has had many different liveries – the latest being our bold, high contrast yellow and black BIG branding. Each time, she gets the same extreme makeover. The vehicle gets stripped down to bare bones – removing all upholstery, carpet, guards, bonnet and boot cover, mirrors and gauges, and stripping the previous vinyl graphics.

The car was prepped for paint, with the rear and guards sprayed in 2-pot automotive black, and the sides and front in yellow. In between, the BIG logo was vinyl wrapped in the perfect match of vibrant yellow. The dashboard gauges were disassembled and recalibrated, with a new design printed and applied. The upholstery was completely removed and replaced with matching yellow. Two new racing seats for the front were sourced and installed, along with carbon fibre wing mirrors and a rearview mirror. The floor was recarpeted in black. Finally, the vehicle was fitted out with colour-changing under-car LEDs down the sides, front and rear, for after-dark party mode.

The entire process took more than 230 hours, and we worked hard on getting 2VDUBS ready to hit the road for the summer. Not only does our stretched VW have a huge visual presence, her sound is crisp and distinctive with an 1835 twin Weber carburettor motor and extractor system. This vehicle is by far the most eye-catching advertisement on the street. It’s impossible to take it out for a drive without people conspicuously pulling out their phones to post on social media. 2VDUBS is the ultimate machine for self-promotion.
